Research Project: Analysis of the Immunogenicity of ASFV Proteins

Location: Foreign Animal Disease Research

Project Number: 3022-32000-063-042-S
Project Type: Non-Assistance Cooperative Agreement

Start Date: Aug 1, 2024
End Date: Jul 31, 2026

Objective:
Study the immunogenicity of selected ASFV proteins in pigs and establish a protocol of immunization using Baculovirus as expression system. Cooperator's laboratory has specialized in different approaches to express foreign proteins in the Baculovirus system. Characterization of the immunogenicity of ASFV will provide basic information for further work in rational design of future vaccines.

Approach:
To implement the project, ASFV genes encoding for selected proteins will be used for the production of recombinant Baculovirus. Purified Baculovirus particles expressing each of the proteins will be produced and further used to immunize pigs. The antibody and cellular immune response elicited will be then quantified and characterized.
