Research Project: Field Release and Evaluation of Ramularia crupinae for the Management of Noxious Crupina vulgaris Populations

Location: Foreign Disease-Weed Science Research

Project Number: 8044-22000-047-018-I
Project Type: Interagency Reimbursable Agreement

Start Date: Jun 1, 2024
End Date: Sep 30, 2025

Objective:
The objectives are to (1) continue to monitor Ramularia crupinae establishment and disease impact at previously established 2023/2024 field sites located in Idaho, Oregon, and the Nez Perce Reservation, (2) assess the establishment and long-term impact of Ramularia crupinae infections, and (3) evaluate the epidemiology of Ramularia crupinae.

Approach:
i) Monitor Ramularia crupinae infections in common crupina field populations at replicated trial sites located in Idaho, Oregon, and the Nez Perce Reservation, (ii) initiate new annual and longitudinal field trials to evaluate pathogen establishment, disease pressure, and crupina population-level impact, and (iii) evaluate pathogen epidemiology with spore traps and host infection assays.
