Objective:
Provide an isolated site to increase breeder seed for the potato breeding program. The area is isolated from any other potatoes by approximately 10 miles, leading to less chance of virus being introduced from commercial potato fields.
Approach:
Strict planting guidelines require that only seed that has been tested free of virus can be planted. Inspection, testing, and removal of diseased plants is followed for this location in order to keep virus, esp. Potato virus Y from being introduced into the seed grown there.
