Objective:
The USDA, Agricultural Research Service Aberdeen location (ARS) and the University of Idaho (UI) agree that: 1) it is mutually beneficial to maintain collaborative relationships and share resources that are needed to achieve common research objectives; 2) that research involving biological materials, biological toxins, non-exempt rDNA, and synthetic nucleic acid molecules is necessary and beneficial to society; 3) that such research must be conducted under specific guidelines to ensure the safety and health of employees, the public, animals, and the natural environment; and 4) that adherence to such guidelines by ARS scientists on UI property in Aberdeen would best be insured by their oversight by the UI IBC.

Approach:
This agreement would allow mutual collaborative use of facilities and services available through the University of Idaho and the USDA, ARS. The purpose of this agreement is to clarify the specific roles and responsibilities that each institution agrees to assume relative to the performance, conduct, management, and/or oversight of research activities which specifically involve recombinant nucleic acid and pathogen research in accordance with ARS Policies and Procedures 602.0, Institutional Biological Safety Committee.
