Location: Agroecosystem Management Research
Project Number: 3042-21660-001-011-S
Project Type: Non-Assistance Cooperative Agreement
Start Date: Jul 1, 2024
End Date: Jun 30, 2025
Objective:
Agriculture plays a critical role in the Nation’s effort to address climate change and food security. The USDA-ARS Partnerships for Data Innovations (PDI) is developing data infrastructure, standardization, and delivery solutions to improve and advance model-driven assessments of agroecosystem greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions, carbon sequestration, water quality, and soil health. Colorado State University (CSU) is a global leader in systems-based modeling, providing expertise to the USDA and EPA to track national emissions and quantify the climate mitigation potential of agricultural conservation practices at various temporal and spatial resolutions. The objective of this agreement is to support a collaboration between USDA-ARS and CSU that contributes to the development of innovative data systems that provide high quality data to modelers with the aim of reducing model uncertainty, improving estimates of conservation mitigation outcomes, and advancing the national inventory.
Approach:
Provide coordination, GIS analytical support, and programming support to develop digital tools (e.g., digital notebooks, dashboards, insights, story maps) and advance model development (DayCent, COMET) to support agricultural research and stakeholder needs.
