Research Project: Croplands Emissions - Midwest Area - Urbana, IL

Location: Global Change and Photosynthesis Research

Project Number: 5012-21000-032-031-I
Project Type: Interagency Reimbursable Agreement

Start Date: May 2, 2024
End Date: May 1, 2029

Objective:
Evaluate greenhouse gas emissions from various agricultural practices: CPS 590 Cover crop research and Diversified crop rotation (e.g., not mono or bi-culture); CPS Residue and Tillage Management, Reduced Till, Code 345 impact on GHG emission and impacts of related soil indices.

Approach:
Ecosystem-scale flux measurements of carbon dioxide, nitrous oxide, methane, water vapor, and sensible heat. All three fields are already instrumented with the sensors to measure all but nitrous oxide and methane. Coupled with these measurements will be fully instrumented weather stations to provide the data necessary to interpret the resulting fluxes in the context of environmental drivers as well as closing the energy budgets for each field. These measurements will continue through 2031.
