Research Project: Genomic analysis to enhance detection and eradication strategies of incursions of tephritid fruit flies in California

Location: Tropical Pest Genetics and Molecular Biology Research Unit

Project Number: 2040-22430-028-038-I
Project Type: Interagency Reimbursable Agreement

Start Date: Sep 15, 2024
End Date: Sep 14, 2026

Objective:
The main goal of this agreement is to generate a genetic framework that can be used to support near real-time monitoring and genetic characterization of pest fruit fly outbreaks and quarantines.

Approach:
1. Genetic data generation from outbreak flies. 2. Determine relationships between ongoing incursions, previous incursions, and native populations. 3. Analysis spatiotemporal of the B. dorsalis incursions.
