Location: Cotton Ginning Research
Project Number: 3050-41000-012-001-S
Project Type: Non-Assistance Cooperative Agreement
Start Date: Jul 1, 2024
End Date: Jun 30, 2027
Objective:
To conduct an analysis to understand the costs and benefits and the variables that influence adoption and deployment of agrivoltaic systems at cotton gins to maximize agricultural, ecological, and economic co-benefits.
Approach:
This agreement will leverage capabilities of Texas A&M University and ARS scientific personnel to investigate strategies and technologies for deployment and operation of agrivoltaics systems at agricultural post-harvest processing facilities, like cotton gins. The collaborative project will involve TAMU and ARS working together with the U.S. cotton industry to collect information about current PV systems at cotton gins and then utilize those data with a wide range of assumptions and constraints to direct a modeling analysis of important variables that impact adoption of agrivoltaics systems and to develop decision tools for evaluating sites for future agrivoltaics systems.
