Research Project: Wheat Crop Improvement for Fusarium Head Blight (FHB) Resistance by Cytogenomics

Location: Crop Production and Protection

Project Number: 0500-00053-005-177-G
Project Type: Grant

Start Date: May 1, 2024
End Date: Apr 30, 2026

Objective:
1) Screening of unique wheat-alien chromosome introgression germplasms germplasms that are available in Wheat Genetics Resource Center at Kansas State University to identify new sorces of resistance to FHB and DON in wheat. 2) Identification of genetic markers linked to FHB resistant loci in HSD2-32

Approach:
1) Screening of wheat-alien chromosome introgression germplasms for Type II FHB resistance will be done by point inoculation under greenhouse conditions. For each germplasm three replicates will be maintained with minimum three spikes per replication for inoculation. 2) Putative genetic loci resistant to FHB was identified in HSD2-32 by genetic mapping. Based on Genotyping by sequencing data we designed 54 markers out of which one marker linked to FHB resistant QTL on Chr2D was validated. To deisgn more markers we sequenced the HSD2-32 and the same will be used to design markers linked with the FHB resistant loci for KASP genotyping.
