Research Project: Modeling Pest Predation Services Associated with Land Use Change in Agricultural Landscapes

Location: Dairy Forage Research

Project Number: 5090-21500-002-052-S
Project Type: Non-Assistance Cooperative Agreement

Start Date: Sep 16, 2024
End Date: Sep 15, 2026

Objective:
The ARS PIs and the Cooperator will work collaboratively to identify and model in-field and edge of field land cover changes that are predicted to increase pest predation services in Upper Midwest cropping systems, including dairy forage systems.

Approach:
This collaborative project will integrate the ARS PIs’ and the Cooperator’s agroecological expertise to identify and model land cover changes that are predicted to increase pest predation services within the most prevalent and emerging cropping systems of the Upper Midwest, including dairy forage systems. The Cooperator’s expertise in landscape ecology and entomology is integral to the proposed research. Land cover changes will include both incremental and transformational changes to advance holistic farm management. The project will inform the experimental design for implementation of land stewardship and research associated with the FarmLab research platform.
