Location: Aerial Application Technology Research
Project Number: 3091-22000-037-019-A
Project Type: Cooperative Agreement
Start Date: Sep 1, 2024
End Date: Jul 31, 2025
Objective:
The objective of this Cooperative Agreement is to support the development of a comprehensive artificial intelligence (AI) forum that will advance the use of AI tools, techniques, and infrastructure within the USDA Research Education and Economics (REE) Mission Area. This forum will aim to enhance the capabilities of ARS and REE scientists by demonstrating the relevance of AI in agricultural research, building connections among researchers and collaborators, inspiring agility in addressing emerging challenges, and catalyzing innovation through practical, hands-on training. The forum is expected to provide a platform for knowledge exchange, capacity building, and strategic discussions on the integration of AI into the USDA's research and funding portfolio, ultimately contributing to the USDA's mission of advancing agricultural science and technology.
Approach:
ARS will work with collaborator to design and implement a comprehensive AI forum. This event will be hosted in a hybrid format, enabling in-person attendance at Cooperator provided facilities and virtual participation across the country. The forum’s content will be jointly developed by ARS, with a focus on demonstrating the relevance of AI in agricultural research through a mix of theoretical sessions, hands-on workshops, and case studies. The curriculum will cater to various skill levels, from beginners to advanced users, and will emphasize the practical application of AI tools, ethical considerations, and strategies for integrating AI into ongoing research projects.
Cooperator will manage all logistical aspects of the forum, including venue selection, audio-visual setup, participant accommodations, and transportation. The event will be structured to foster interaction and networking, with plenary sessions, panel discussions, and breakout groups designed to encourage collaboration and knowledge sharing among participants. A robust virtual platform will be used to ensure that remote attendees can fully engage with the event, including live streaming, interactive sessions, and access to recorded content. Post-event, ARS will conduct an evaluation of the forum’s impact, gather participant feedback, and develop recommendations for future AI initiatives within the USDA. All session materials will be made available to participants for ongoing reference and application in their work.
