Research Project: Integrated Insect Control and Resistance Management Strategies for Row Crops in the Southern United States

Location: Southern Insect Management Research

Project Number: 6066-30400-001-000-D
Project Type: In-House Appropriated

Start Date: Jun 13, 2025
End Date: Jun 12, 2030

Objective:
Objective 1: Determine current insecticide susceptibilities of major southern row crop insect pests and identify mechanisms involved in populations with elevated resistance levels. Objective 2: Determine the suitability of various non-chemical methods to control insect pests of southern row crops. Objective 3: Evaluate current and novel strategies for insect control and investigate their applicability against various complexes of insect pests and natural enemies of southern row crops. Objective 4: Improve techniques to monitor migration and distribution of insect pests and natural enemies across different spatial scales.

Approach:
Studies will be carried out on the impact of agronomic practices (water management, plant nutrition, and cultural practices) on tri-trophic interactions to optimize insect pest management in Southern row crops.
