Because most of these mites are small, transparent, and are hidden in cryptic areas of the insect host; field recognition and collection of these mites is difficult. Paradactylidium is one of the lesser known genera of this family, and biological and ecological information is practically non existent. The importance of this paper is to describe a new species, redescribed the only other known species and characterize the genus. This study will be important to taxonomists, and to persons involved in mite systematics and biological control. Technical Abstract: The genus Paradactylidium is revised. The type-species, P. micrangulatum is redescribed, and a new species, P. oconnori, is described from specimens collected from old field litter in New York, USA. |
