KOUL, O., DHALIWAL, G.S., EDITORS. NEW YORK, NY: TAYLOR & FRANCIS; CHAPTER 2. 2002. p. 13-115. MICROBIAL BIOPESTICIDES. Interpretive Summary: Technical Abstract: Secondary metabolites and proteins produced by microorganisms that have activity against insects are described. The producing organism, insect target, and level of activity is listed, as well as symptomology and mode of action (if available). The information includes secondary compounds types/groups that number 6 from bacteria, 27 from actinomycetes, and 85 from fungi. Also included are an additional 10 groups of cyclic peptides. Structures are given for representative compounds of each type/group. Thirteen different protein types/groups are also described as for the secondary metabolites. There is also a section discussing synergistic interactions and targeting of multiple sites by the complex produced by one organism. General trends in use and directions for new discovery are also discussed. |
