Technical Abstract: This newsletter contribution provides a brief overview of the research efforts on barley germplasm enhancement at the Plant Science Research Laboratory in 1998. Areas discussed include development of a new, unadapted RWA-resistant barley germplasm line, crossing for genetic analysis as well as pre-breeding, field evaluation of adapted RWA-resistant germplasm lines, ,testing of a new seedling screening technique for resistance to bird cherry-oat aphid (BCO), genetic studies, field studies, cooperative efforts, as well as a list of publications for 1998.
