Knowing the location of important genes can lead to DNA-based assays for marker-assisted selection, and elucidating the connection between hereditary input (genotype) and physiological output (phenotype). As QTL information is being produced, the next hurdle is to bridge the gap between experimental studies and the commercial environment, a mission that the USDA-ARS is ideally positioned to do. |
