Interpretive Summary:

Technical Abstract: Combine grain yield monitors should provide reliable yield measurements since yield as a function of location is key information to manage fields based on local crop input requirements. We have shown that a scale and yield monitor measuring the same stream of grain provide similar results, but either device may affect the outcome of experiments if care is not taken. It is clear that the operator of the combine yield monitor system is very important to the quality of the field data. Careful operators who pay attention to calibration, maintenance, and manufacturers instructions will be required.
