Interpretive Summary:

Technical Abstract: The Cereal Crops Research Unit malts and analyzes the quality of over 4000 breeders' barley selections each year. We have recently acquired a new Joe White micromalting apparatus and a Skalar Sans Plus analytical system, which together, will allow us to process up to 50% more samples. We anticipate that the number of samples we need to analyze each year will rise as breeders proceed in developing scab resistant barleys. During the past two years we have made several changes in how we process, analyze and report data about the submitted samples. In this presentation we will discuss how we presently carry out our quality analysis process, including how samples are processed, malted and analyzed and how quality evaluations are made and reported.
