Interpretive Summary: NO INTERPRETIVE SUMMARY IS REQUIRED

Technical Abstract: The methods described here are generally regarded as the most useful or commonly employed assays for measuring the hydrolysis of cellulose by cellulases. Many of the assays are useful from an empirical standpoint, and can not be used to compare results between laboratories. An attempt has been made to include methods applicable to a variety of research interests. The methods are divided into six categories: Viscosity, Reducing Group, Chromophore and Fluorescent group release, Chromatographic, Coupled enzymes and Special methods (discussion only).
