Technical Abstract: This 1998 Edition of the User's Manual features a new method to evaluate the effect of a changed climate on the runoff regime for the entire hydrological year. Guidance is given for computing runoff in the winter half year and for assessing the redistribution of runoff between the winter and summer in response to climate change. In order to accommodate these new tasks, the PC program has been restructured resulting in more convenience and versatility for the user. The Version 4.0 is available on Internet by accessing FTP file server "hydrolab.arsusda.gov" and on diskettes which are distributed on request free of charge. Since the publication of the 1994 Edition (Martinec et al., 1994), the Snowmelt Runoff Model (SRM) has been applied by independent investigators in Chile, Ecuador, China, Austria, Switzerland, Turkey, and Spain. So far, three SRM Workshops have been conducted at the University of Berne, Switzerland (http://saturn.unibe.ch/remsen/), involving about 100 participants from 20 countries. In addition, the authors are available to assist users in overcoming special problems which may be encountered.
