Application of Soil and Water Assessment Tool (SWAT) to a tile-drained watershed. ASA-CSSA-SSSA Annual Meeting Abstracts. Madison, Wisconsin. Interpretive Summary: Technical Abstract: Walnut Creek, located in west-central Iowa, is a 5130 ha watershed with about 86% of the land used for crop production. Since 1990, flow, nitrate-N, and herbicides including atrazine and alachlor have been monitored at eight locations. Walnut Creek Watershed (WCW) is mostly tile-drained, making it difficult to apply any existing hydrologic model to this watershed. In this study, the Soil and Water Assessment Tool (SWAT) model was modified to include subsurface drainage and applied to WCW. Simulated flow, sediment, and nutrient loading from WCW were verified with the field data. |
