Interpretive Summary:

Technical Abstract: The activity of lipoxygenase can be assayed either by oxygen uptake using an oxygen electrode or by detection of product conjugated hydroperoxydiene fatty acid with ultraviolet-detection at 234 nm. Although both methods are efficient and facile, they both have inherent advantages and disadvantages that must be considered. Inasmuch as the composition of product hydroperoxydiene fatty acids are a mixture of regio- and stereo- isomers, a method is described for the complete analysis of product composition by combined straight-phase and chiral-phase high-performance liquid chromatography.
