Interpretive Summary:

Technical Abstract: Water is a critical component in management of rangeland resources. Improved understanding, both by rangeland resource managers and by the larger public, of the integrating role of watersheds in rangelands is important to sustained productivity and long-term stability of rangeland watersheds and ranching. Incorporating students into watershed research programs provides both a targeted educational experience for the students involved, and an opportunity to broaden their awareness of the interacting physical and biological processes, landscape attributes, and the social and economic factors which ultimately affect viability of range management. Examples are provided by current educational activities of the Idaho Rangeland Resource Commission, by student involvement in the Northwest Watershed Research Center, and by the collaborative CAREERS program of the Eco-Hydraulics Research Group.
