Society of Citrus Nurserymen, 5th International Congress, pp. 303-305 Interpretive Summary: Technical Abstract: The California certification program for citrus is one of the oldest in the world, having its origins in the 1930s. All citrus trees produced for sale in California must be certified by the California Department of Food and Agriculture (CDFA). One requirement for certification is that the trees be produced from budwood produced by the University of California Citrus Clonal Protection Program (CCPP)and are tested for the presence of viral diseases at regular intervals. CCPP is the primary source for citrus budwood in California and, through its quarantine program, provides a mechanism for the safe introduction of new citrus varieties into California. The quarantining process and various CCPP budwood sources are described. |
