Interpretive Summary:

Technical Abstract: The yearly costs associated with running a 'model' citrus germplasm repository are estimated. The 'model' repository has a field collection, a screenhouse collection containing disease-free stock for distribution, a greenhouse, and lab/office space. The large expense is associated with the lab activities, with greenhouse/screenhouse activities intermediate, and field activities lowest in cost. The relative expenses are due to the labor-intensiveness of the various components. Salaries and benefits account for 2/3 of the total annual costs of nearly $US 170,000.
