PROCEEDINGS INTERNATIONAL WORKSHOP ON CITRUS TRISTEZA VIRUS & TOXOPTERA. 1992. Interpretive Summary: Technical Abstract: Citrus tristeza virus (CTV) is one of the most destructive and important diseases of citrus worldwide. Many breeding programs have attempted to incorporate CTV-resistance into citrus. This has not been successful to this point. Some types of citrus are tolerant to CTV, but are not truly resistant. True resistance to CTV is found in some related Aurantioideae genera. However, these are not always compatible with citrus by natural hybridization. It is therefore likely that it will be possible to incorporate resistance to CTV into citrus only with biotechnological techniques, which are not completely developed for citrus at this point. |
