An investigation was initiated to determine the effectiveness of using constructed wetlands to treat swine wastewater and to provide recommendations for their design. The constructed wetlands were effective in treating Total Nitrogen and Ammonia-N with treatment efficiencies >75%. They were not as effective in treatment of Total Phosphorus. Design parameters were calculated based on first-order area-based uptake equations. First-order area-based rate constants were calculated and found to be in close agreement with those in the literature. |
