Insect resistance in the Aspergillus flavus/aflatoxin resistant inbred Tex6 was compared to the susceptible hybrid B73 in a 2-year lab and field study. Although there were no significant differences in kernel resistance for caterpillars and sap beetles tested in excised kernel studies, Tex6 showed both leaf and silk resistance compared to B73. Small Tex6 plants had significantly less flea beetle damage, and silks were significantly more resistant to three caterpillar species in lab and field studies. Determination of active components of silks is in progress. |
