Interpretive Summary:

Technical Abstract: The objective of this research was to evaluate various herbicides to control volunteer glyphosate resistant corn in glyphosate and glufosinate resistant soybean. The study was established at the University of Illinois Crop Sciences Research and Education Center, Urbana. The soil was a Drummer silty clay loam with a pH of 6.8 and 5.9% organic matter. Pioneer 93B53rr and Cropland 287411 soybean were planted 1.5 inches deep on May 26 in 30 inch rows. Dekalb 580rr (F2) corn was spread ahead of the planter. Treatments were arranged in randomized complete blocks with three replications of plots 10 by 32 feet. Herbicides were applied with a CO2 backpack sprayer delivering 20 gpa and equipped with 8003 flat fan nozzles. Soybean injury was observed with some treatments including imazaquin at 0.063 lb/A, imazamox at 0.031 lb/A, chlorimuron at 0.01, and fomesafen at 0.294 early on, but dropped under the 10% level by 21 days after treatment. Good to excellent control of volunteer glyphosate resistant corn was observed with all graminicides used and several other treatments. Some of these were chlorimuron & sulfentrazone at 0.24 lb/A preemergence, imazaquin at 0.63 lb/A postemergence, imazamox at 0.031 lb/A postemergence, and glufosinate at 0.31 lb/A. Little activity on volunteer glyphosate resistant corn was exhibited with preemergence sulfentrazone at 0.188 lb/A, clomazone at 0.75 lb/A, FOE 5043 & metribuzin at 0.45 lb/A, or postemergence chlorimuron at 0.01 lb/A, fomesafen at 0.294 lb/A, chlorimuron at 0.016 lb/A, ICIA-0224 at 1.0 lb/A, and glyphosate at 0.75 lb/A.
