Interpretive Summary:

Technical Abstract: Agrochemicals are generally most effective when applied uniformly and at the proper rate. Recommended practices for best results are given on the chemical containers, but proper application can be attained only if all components of the sprayer function satisfactorily. For example, without sufficient agitation in sprayer tanks, most wettable powders and other solid formulations of pesticides have tendencies either to float on the surface of the liquid carrier in tanks, or to deposit at the bottom of the tank. This leads to significant variations in the concentration of agrochemical active ingredients in the spray solution discharged from a sprayer throughout the application period. There is little previous research on the uniformity of agrochemical distribution in sprayer tanks during application. This paper will provide recommendations on many factors such as; tank size and shape, agitator design and location, sprayer operating conditions, properties of liquid carrier and the pesticide formulation, that influence tank mixing.
