Publication Type: Abstract Only Publication Acceptance Date: 12/14/2000 Publication Date: N/A Citation: N/A Interpretive Summary: Technical Abstract: Turkey leptin receptor (tOb-R) cDNA has been sequenced and characterized using reversed transcription polymerase chain reaction (RT-PCR). The predicted precursor protein is comprised of 1147 amino acids and shows approximately 90% sequence identity with the long form chicken leptin receptor and 40-50% with the long form of mammalian leptin receptor. The tOb-R was found to contain a putative signal peptide (23 amino acids), a single transmembrane domain (21 amino acids), two WSXWS motifs defining a putative leptin binding region in the extracellular domain, conserved box 1, 2 and 3 motifs in the cytoplasmic domain that are thought to be involved in intracellular signal transduction, and conserved three essential tyrosine residues in the intracellular domain. The sequence data we report will be useful in studying expression of the leptin receptor gene in turkeys and determining its role in regulating appetite, energy metabolism and body weight. |
