Interpretive Summary:

Technical Abstract: United States agriculture produces over 12 billion pounds of soybean oil annually, and frequently carry-over exceeds 1 billion pounds. Approx. 300 million pounds of soybean oil are used in industrial applications. At the Oil Chemical Research Unit (ARS, USDA, NCAUR), our principle efforts focus on modifying the chemical and physical properties of vegetable oils (emphasizing soybean oil), to enhance their use as an additive or as a major component of value-added industrial products.
