NITROGEN AND RISK IN CORN PRODUCTION UNDER ALTERNATIVE TILLAGE SYSTEMS. AVAILABLE FROM: HTTP://AGECON.LIB.UMN.EDU. AMERICAN AGRICULTURAL ECONOMICS ASSOCIATION MEETINGS [2001] Interpretive Summary: Technical Abstract: This paper estimates annual corn yield responses to nitrogen under four different tillage systems. The estimated production functions are used to calculate the expected profit maximizing nitrogen application rate, the expected utility maximizing nitrogen application rate and the relationship between nitrogen application rates and risk premiums. Results show that optimum nitrogen application rates for no-till, ridge till and chisel plow tillage systems decreased with risk aversion, while optimum nitrogen application rates for the moldboard plow tillage system increased with risk aversion. Results also show that risk premiums vary with the amount of nitrogen applied and across tillage systems. |
