Technical Abstract: Infiltration, the process of water entering the soil surface, is part of the water cycle. There are several types of infiltration models: physical-based, empirical-based, rainfall excess models, and approximate theory-based. The rate that water infiltrates the soil is affected by surface and subsurface soil properties, both of which are affected by management and natural phenomena. Infiltration varies within the landscape and over time as soil properties change. The type of infiltration measurement should relate to the application of the results.
