Interpretive Summary:

Technical Abstract: Insect infestation in food packaging results in economic losses because the product is contaminated or destroyed and rendered as unfit for the market. This chapter discusses the need for insect resistant packaging, the insects that invade or penetrate packages, how insect resistant packaging is developed, and the availability of new products and designs that minimize insect contamination. The delivery of a high quality contaminant free product to the consumer should be the objective of every food processor.
