This model has been used to study the effect of mycoplasmas on ciliated epithelium of the respiratory tracts of chickens in vitro. Taylor-Robinson and Cherry reported that various strains of Mycoplasma gallisepticum caused a reduction of ciliary activity in chicken TROC after 4-5 days. The present study examined the effect of Mycoplasma gallisepticum S6 and R strains on the ciliary activity of chicken TROC. Preliminary results suggest that Mycoplasma gallisepticum S6 strain caused a reduction in ciliary activity after 5 days, whereas Mycoplasma gallisepticum R strain took >6 days. |
