Identification and differentiation of brucella abortus field and vaccine strains by bass-pcr. In: Sachse, K., Frey, J., editors. Methods in Molecular Biology. Totowa, NJ:Humana Press p. 97-108. Interpretive Summary: X Technical Abstract: Brucella abortus is a pathnogenic gram-negative bacteria that can cause abortions in cattle. To assist in the identification of Brucella in the diagnostic laboratory, a rapid PCR-based assay was developed that identifies Brucella abortus field strains and can differentiate them from the two certified vaccine strains, S19 and RB51. Over time, the assay has been modified and optimized, and designated the BaSS-PCR Assay (for Brucella abortus Species Specific). This paper describes in step-by-step fashion, how to perform the assay and how to interpret the results. |
