Interpretive Summary:

Technical Abstract: This paper describes the various genetic and physical maps that exist for cattle and the similarities and differences between the maps. This paper also presents details on how genetic and physical maps are constructed and the animal populations needed to make such maps. A discussion of the uses of each map and how each relates to the others is given. Lastly, a discussion of how the completed sequence of the human genome can be applied to cattle genomics is presented.
