Interpretive Summary:

Technical Abstract: Cry1Ac is a Bacillus thuringiensis protein that has specific activity against Lepidoptera. H. zea larvae were tested for their response to high doses of Cry1Ac protein at each instar. The first four instars had high mortality and the survivors had delayed development. Fifth instar individuals showed significantly less mortality, although the pupae were significantly smaller than the control. The results illustrate that physiological changes that occur during development can influence the action of anthropomorphic compounds.
