Interpretive Summary:

Technical Abstract: In order to identify the attributes of individual physiological characters to salt tolerance, genotypes were evaluated for their salt tolerance in seed yield and physiological characters. Plants of twelve genotypes were grown under greenhouse and treated with sodium chloride and calcium chloride (5:1 molar ratio) at 4.5 and 8.3 dS/m. Highly significant correlation between leaf area index and seed yield was identified. The scores and rankings of genotypes for salt tolerance based on leaf area were similar to those based on seed yield. The interaction between potassium and sodium ions was significant because of their highly significantly negative correlation and the increase of potassium-sodium selectivity under salt stress. Sodium-calcium selectivity decreased with increases of salinity. The decrease of sodium-calcium selectivity was correlated with the salt tolerance of seed yield among genotypes.
