Interpretive Summary:

Technical Abstract: Our contribution to this annual newsletter is a summary of research accomplishments in the past year in germplasm enhancement for aphid resistance in barley and wheat at the USDA-ARS Plant Science and Water Conservation Research Laboratory , Stillwater, OK. Russian Wheat aphid, Greenbug, Bird Cherry Oat aphid, and Rice Root aphid are all pests of barley and wheat in the US. This report gives an overview of research for the past year at our lab in the areas of host plant resistance, biological control, and entomological studies of these aphid pests. Industry, state, and private breeders will benefit from not only have adapted germplasm lines but also the genetic information needed to most effectively integrate the resistance to these aphids into their breeding programs. Personnel and recent publications are also listed.
