Interpretive Summary: The mission of the Fort Keogh Livestock and Range Research Laboratory is to research and develop ecologically and economically sustainable range animal management systems that ultimately meet consumers needs. This report covers research conducted or summarized over the last three years to meet this mission. Areas of research include studies on rangeland productivity, management strategies for grazing livestock, enhancing female fertility, genomic solutions, breeding systems, producing lean beef, and forage quality. Included are 42 reports on studies such as measuring carbon fluxes on rangelands, livestock performance on new varieties of seeded grasses, drought management, estrus synchronization protocols for beef cattle, use of genetic markers and Quality Trait Loci (QTL) in breeding decisions, performance of cattle with differing genetic backgrounds to improve production of lean meat, and techniques for evaluating quality of rangeland forage for beef cattle production. Each report includes a section on future directions for continued research in the subject and a listing of relevant publications covering the research results in greater detail.
