Radiation doses for wide-cross whole-genome radiation hybrid mapping of the cotton (Gossypium hirsutum L.) genome [abstract]. Plant and Animal Genome XI Conference. Paper No. P688. Interpretive Summary: Technical Abstract: Radiation hybrid mapping has been successfully employed in genome mapping of human and several other animal species. Limited results have been reported from plants. Previously, we reported low-dose wide-cross whole-genome radiation hybrid (WWRH) mapping of the cotton (G. hirsutum) genome. Here, we present additional results, including more information on radiation dose selection for WWRH mapping of the cotton genome. In all, six radiation doses were tested. Higher doses gave lower seed set, lower seed germination percentages, and lower marker retention frequencies. To date, we have constructed two WWRH mapping populations with different selected doses, 5 krads and 8 krads. Initial results indicate they have complementary attributes. |
