Interpretive Summary: Technical Abstract: Chickens from seven 15.B congenic lines (genetically identical except for the MHC B haplotype) and Line 0 and Line 0.B semicongenic lines, were infected with strain ADOL HC-1 of subgroup J Avian Leukosis virus (ALV-J) at hatch. At 5, 8, and 16 weeks of age, chickens were tested for ALV-J-induced viremia, antibody, and cloacal shedding; chickens were also monitored for development of ALV-J tumors. By 16 weeks of age, the incidence of viremia and shedding was comparable in all 15.B congenic lines (B*2, B*5, B*12, B*15, B*19, and B*21) regardless of B haplotype. However, the incidence of viremia in Line 0 and 0.B semicongenic lines (Line 0-21 and Line 0.P-13) was significantly lower than in the 15.B congenic lines, 15.P-13 and 15.N-21, which express the same B haplotype. Results suggest that line of chicken, but not B haplotype may influence ALV-J infection. |
