The Fourth International Potato Processing Conference. 2003. Interpretive Summary: Our laboratory is developing molecular tools for the improvement of potatoes. Transgenes to address a variety of agronomic and quality problems have been constructed and introduced into potatoes for evaluation by breeding programs in Idaho. We have developed transgenes that reduce susceptibility to blackspot bruise and alter synthesis of glycoalkaloids. We are currently evaluating transgenes that confer resistance to late blight Phytophthora, potato viruses X, Y and PLRV.
