Technical Abstract: Regulatory agencies and granting sources have made clear to researchers that a major goal of agricultural research should be pesticide reduction in favor of sustainable practices. Scientists involved in honey bee research have experienced this important trend. Alternatives to synthetic chemicals do exist for bee pests and diseases. It is the challenge for scientists to incorporate these studies in an economical set of recommendations for the beekeeping industry to use.
