Future directions for what we eat in american-nhanes: the integrated csfii-nhanes. Journal of Nutrition. 133:624S-634S. Interpretive Summary: The dietary intake of the U.S. public is of considerable interest to researchers, program administrators, and policy makers. Daily diet and a health surveys are supplied by NHANES and CSFII. This data is combined with data from the National Nutrient Database for Standard Reference to provide the daily dietary intake. This workshop covered the 3 aspects of intake calculation: 1) collection of food and dietary supplement intake data, 2) estimation of usual intakes, and 3) food and dietary supplement databases for NHANES and SCFII. A major area of discussion for the last category was the increased use of dietary supplements (vitamin and mineral supplements and herbal and botanical supplements) and the lack of appropriate databases Technical Abstract: The history of the integration of the dietary data collection from the National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey (NHANES) and the Continuing Survey of Food Intakes by Individuals (CSFII) is reviewed. The purposes and process of the workshop are presented. The three key topics of the workshop are summarized. The key roles of cosponsors and participants are acknowledged. |
