Interpretive Summary:

Technical Abstract: Seven cultivars of hard spring wheat from the 2002 crop were evaluated for the U.S. Wheat Associates Overseas Varietal Analysis project. Wheat was tested for kernel characteristics and milling properties, and the milled flour was shipped to PNW and Gulf overseas collaborators for their evaluations. Several of the collaborators requested wheat. Wheat cultivars included ND 724, ND 741, MN 97803 and Parshall from the 2002 Wheat Quality Council trials, the cultivar Alsen from North Dakota, and the cultivars McNeal and Scholar from Montana. The cultivars Alsen, McNeal, Parshall, and Scholar were graded by FGIS as #1DNS; ND 724 as #2DNS; ND 741 as #1NS; and MN 97803 as #1S. Falling number ranged from 315 sec for ND 741 to 482 sec for McNeal. Wheat protein ranged from 13.3% for Scholar to 17.6% for ND 724. Wheat ash ranged from 1.44% for Scholar to 1.85% for MN 97803. Flour extractions that were obtained from the Buhler Experimental mill ranged from 62% to 63% for McNeal, ND 724, ND 741, Parshall, and Scholar and from 64% to 66% for Alsen and MN 97803.
