Interpretive Summary:

Technical Abstract: One of the objectives of the USDA-ARS HKD Stuttgart National Aquaculture Research Center is to develop methods to minimize effects of fish-eating birds at aquaculture facilities. Our approach has been to develop, modify, and evaluate nonlethal techniques that meet this objective. Aside from monitoring colonial waterbirds (specifically Double-crested Cormorants, American White Pelicans, Great Blue Herons, and Great Egrets) over the past 4 years, we have completed numerous research projects with varying degrees of success as it relates to our overall objective. This presentation will highlight those projects and discuss future research needs.
