Interpretive Summary: The more than 4,300 species of fruit flies include numerous pests of fruits and vegetables. Most of the pest species that threaten U.S. agriculture are exotic, but the faunas of many tropical areas are poorly known. This paper reports the identities of fruit fly specimens recently collected from New Caledonia. The 18 species represented include three new species and seven species reported from New Caledonia for the first time. The total number of fruit flies known from the island is increased from 15 to 25. This information will be of use to regulatory agencies such as APHIS-PPQ and to scientists studying fruit flies or the biota of New Caledonia.

Technical Abstract: Tephritidae collected from New Caledonia by M. E. Irwin, E. I. Schlinger, and D. W. Webb were studied and identified. The 18 species represented include three new species, Austronevra irwini, Ceratitella schlingeri, and Euphranta hardyi, and seven species reported from New Caledonia for the first time. The total number of Tephritidae from the island is increased from 15 to 25.
